First time flying... really scared?!?

I am 24 and am flying to Baltimore to meet my brother for the first time. I am really scared, I've never flown. I keep thinking about the plane being hijacked, or another "bird" incident like what happened in... new york was it? Do they have a problem with birds in baltimore getting in the way of planes? I am also flying Airtran.. which is a really cheap flight... does that fact decrease my safety as far as how much money they put into their planes, etc?
